KARIYA (Japan) – Global automotive supplier DENSO will exhibit at the 20th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems, at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, Tuesday, Oct. 15, – Friday, Oct. 18. DENSO will present its intelligent transport system (ITS)-related products and technologies mainly in the area of safety, under the theme “Technology to keep people safe wherever they drive—Everyday Confidence, Extraordinary Safety.”
Main exhibits
DENSO’s main exhibits will include; a large-screen head-up display (HUD) to project a variety of information onto the windshield; a Driver Status Monitor that uses a camera to detect the driver’s inattentiveness level; a vision sensor used for lane departure warning and automatic high beam control systems; and a millimeter-wave radar used for autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control systems.
Demonstration
DENSO will present its “Smart Charging” demonstration, where a vehicle will self-drive to a designated place at a specified time for automatic battery charging as directed by the control center. This self-driving demonstration is based on a combination of vehicle positioning and driving environment sensing technologies.
Harmonised eCall European Pilot (HeERO2)
DENSO will also introduce its participation in the Harmonised eCall European Pilot (HeERO2) through a video. This is a vehicle device field test which is being implemented in Europe, to validate the feasibility of “eCall,” using real communication networks. The “eCall” is a vehicle safety system which automatically makes an emergency call when the vehicle is involved in a severe traffic accident, and is planned to be legislated in 2015. For this field test, DENSO provides communication modules, testing vehicles, and drivers and analyzes vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
ITS GREEN SAFETY SHOWCASE
DENSO will provide its products for the ITS GREEN SAFETY SHOWCASE, a project where the Japanese government and private sector works together to solve traffic and other transportation problems using cooperative systems. Specifically, DENSO will offer its On-board Equipment for two showcases. DENSO will provide Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2X) Communication devices for the showcase that demonstrates safe driving at intersections using roadside sensor information, safe and smooth intersection passing using traffic signal information, and safe driving using Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Pedestrian-to-Vehicle Communication. Also the company will provide Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) system for the showcase that demonstrates safer and more comfortable driving using information obtained via roadside “ITS Spots” (communication units) and mobile phone networks.
DENSO has developed products and technologies in order to envisage an accident-free society. Based on the technologies it has developed, DENSO will continue to help build an automotive society where all people in the world, including drivers and pedestrians, feel safe and secure.
