Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that Resident Evil Village will be released on May 7, 2021 (May 8, 2021 in Japan) on next-generation platforms PlayStation®5 computer entertainment system, Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One.
The Resident Evil franchise features survival horror games in which players utilize a variety of weapons and other items to escape terrifying situations. Cumulative shipments of the games in the series now exceed 100 million units since the first title debuted in 1996. Now, more than 24 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe makes it Capcom’s flagship game series.
Representing the eighth title in the series, the new Resident Evil Village is the sequel to Resident Evil 7 biohazard (which has gone on to ship a cumulative 8.3 million units as of September 30, 2020) and will feature a higher degree of action gameplay elements. In the game, players will take on the role of protagonist Ethan Winters as they delve into a new kind of survival horror set in a mysterious village. To provide the game to a wider audience, in addition to Resident Evil Village being released on next-generation platforms PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, it will also be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Further, customers who purchase the game for current-generation platforms but also own next-generation hardware can access the next-generation digital version as well.
Moreover, in celebration of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, Capcom plans a number of initiatives for the brand, including its first original CG animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which will launch worldwide exclusively on Netflix.
Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all stakeholders by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.
