Barât adds “it’s been a long old while since Peter and I have done anything like this, we are both really excited by the prospect and I’m sure there will be a few surprises. It will be a right old night, at what is one of our favourite venues – the Hackney Empire.”
Peter Doherty has just released his acclaimed new album with new band The Puta Madres and toured the UK and Europe. Carl Barât recently returned from a tour of the far East which saw Beatlemania like scenes wherever he played. The Libertines studio/Hotel in Margate, The Albion Rooms, is well on it’s way to completion with the bar ‘The Waste Land’ and the studio opening in the next few months. The Libertines are currently working on their fourth album, the followup to the No.3 UK charting album ’Anthems For Doomed Youth’ (2015).
Following the release of ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ The Libertines played to over a million fans worldwide, including sold out shows at Hyde Park, three nights at Alexandra Palace, seven UK Arena shows, Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, The Royal Festival Hall, along with headlining Reading, Leeds, Y Not, Victorious, Truck, T In The Park and On BlackHeath Festivals.
SOMEWHERE, which launched in Tokyo in April, with performances from Phoenix, JUSTICE, Carl Barât, Friendly Fires and Basement Jaxx, takes up residence at London’s Hackney Empire for 11 shows in September. SOMEWHERE brings unique performances at special venues around the world with distinctive staging and the backdrop of their trademark 1001 candles. Having already received great acclaim in Japan, this London event will be the first international appearance of SOMEWHERE, before touring classic Art Deco theatres in major cities around the world in Paris, New York, Berlin and Moscow.
