OMEGA: Official Timekeeper of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

OMEGA organized a send-off event for some members of the Japan National Team who are on their way to compete in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, where they hope to deliver their finest performances. The party was held at the Cite du Temps at the Nicolas G. Hayek Center in Tokyo’s Ginza Prefecture. The event was attended by Hirobumi Kawano, the vice-president of Japan Olympic Committee and six athletes from the Japanese National Team, including figure skaters Tatsuki Machida and Akiko Suzuki, speed skaters Joji Kato and Nao Kodaira and curling specialists Ayumi Ogasawara and Yumie Funayama.

Christophe Savioz, President and Representative Director of the Swatch Group Japan K.K./OMEGA Brand Manager, said in his remarks “Sochi is the 26th Olympic Games at which OMEGA will serve as Official Olympic Timekeeper since it was first appointed to the role in 1932. If you consider the number of people and the technology regarding timekeeping, there is no comparison between now and then. There has been a history of great development and OMEGA has played a major role in this evolution of timekeeping technology and I’m proud of this fact.”

Hirobumi Kawano, the Vice President of the JOC, expressed his confidence that the team could claim more than 10 medals, the number Japan won during the Nagano Olympic Games. He also talked about Tokyo 2020 and said the JOC is both thrilled and excited and is working hard to ensure that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be successful and that every participating country is happy with the host city. Another goal, he said, was for Japan to achieve especially good results.

OMEGA presented a watch to each athlete and wished them every success in the upcoming Olympic Winter Games. Following the event, athletes visited the Omega Boutique Ginza and enjoyed posing for photographs on  the bobsleigh on display at the Nicolas G. Hayek Center.

OMEGA has been contracted by the International Olympic Committee to serve as Official Timekeeper through the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
