Epson Atmix Completes New Plant

TOKYO, Japan, September 4, 2013Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, “Epson”) today announced that Group company Epson Atmix Corporation had completed construction of its new Kita-Inter Plant begun in June 2012. Epson Atmix, which is located in Hachinohe-shi, Aomori Prefecture, Japan, is the world’s leading manufacturer of superfine alloy powder*. The new plant will begin operations in October.

Epson Atmix invested 3.2 billion yen to triple its current production capacity to 10,000 tons of superfine alloy powder. The company plans to use the new plant to manufacture the powder used to create components for automobiles and medical instruments, and sophisticated mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs.

Epson Atmix designed its new production line to minimize energy and resources consumption. By carefully selecting and deploying production equipment for the new plant, the company succeeded in reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 25% and waste emissions by approximately 50% (compared to unit of production in the original plant).
